The 120 participants, all Year Eight students from 32 secondary government and private schools, seemed to be ecstatic about the social-oriented activities at the camp, which is being held at Sekolah Menengah PDSM Mentiri
The guest of honour, Pengiran Hajah Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin, the Acting Director of Examination Departments, Ministry of Education officiated the opening ceremony. The event began with a speech delivered by the Co-Chairperson, Pg Hamiosmera bin Pg Hj Othman and the guest of honour. The latter was also taken on a tour of the camp site.
The science camp, organised by the association with cooperation from the Ministry of Education and sponsored by the Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), will be held for four days.
Scientific activities and cultural performances, such as mind mapping, activities from volunteers and essay writing competitions, are among the activities lined up in the hope of motivating whilst enhancing the participants' knowledge and experience in science and technology, as well as their communication and leadership skills.
Along with several volunteer activities by BASE, MTSSR and BASE Chapter activities, the participants are also required to conduct a science project presentation that will be recorded in CD format to be used later in classrooms as learning aids.
The science camp will also feature a Webquest for supervising teachers.
